All About Me

This is me with my children.

All About Me

Hi Everyone

I am Marie-Claire I have been a qualified Nursery Nurse for eighteen years, within that time I had three children Kyle, Eve and Emily. Being a mum has taught me about the importance of touch through breastfeeding my three children.

My first born treated me very kindly, he was a very easy going baby. We had a lot of skin to skin contact as I knew this helped with breastfeeding, however I never truly understood the importance of touch at this point. When my second baby came into the world my eyes were opened with a screaming baby with little or no sleep (I know a lot of mummy's and daddy's can relate to that). I had discovered that touch soothed her, she had a dairy allergy and was not gaining weight appropriately. I continued to breastfeed with lots of skin to skin contact to ease her discomfort. I would place my warm hands on her tummy which soothed her instantly, it was when I realised the power of a mothers touch that I was introduced to baby massage. We would do a tummy massage at night, this would help get things moving either sick or a dirty nappy which helped her get into a deep sleep. I was amazed at the effects it had on the both of us, I was getting a sleep for the first time, which let me start massage on my older child strengthening our bond with a new baby at home.

My third baby was a feisty girl I found she needed a lot of touch to teach her how to relax. Breastfeeding and skin to skin contact helped to calm her, however she was a very difficult sleeper so I introduced massage early on which helped her to get a deep sleep (mummy was very happy!). I found days I didn't do any massage she would be awake all hours. as my baby slept more I was able to spend more quality time with my other two children.

Breastfeeding wasn't always easy for me, I had some trying times I was very lucky with the support I received. I wanted to help mum's the same way I was supported. I became a breastfeeding supporter to help all breastfeeding mum's. I provide this service along with my massage for any breastfeeding mum's interested, this would be completely free of charge.

What I have learned from my children is touch is so important for babies not just for breastfeeding, touch induces the LOVE hormone (oxytocin) which feels amazing for baby and parent.

After I became a breastfeeding supporter I developed a passion for the mother and baby bond not just for breastfeeding mum's but all parents can have this special bond through touch, massage is a loving way to show it.

Today I still massage my children every night before bed. We have become closer as a family, it helps my children relax into a deep sleep, having that quality one to one time with mummy or daddy making them feel special helping them open up and share whats happening in their wee world.

Qualifications

IAIM / INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INFANT MASSAGE.

I qualified as a certified infant massage instructor in December 2017. I have been doing private one to one massage courses with all the lovely Mummies and Daddies with their babies since I qualified. I am looking forward to starting a few classes.

THE BREASTFEEDING NETWORK

I have been working with the breastfeeding network for a few years now volunteering at groups, National Breastfeeding Helpline and on the maternity ward. I am now a fully qualified Breastfeeding Supporter. This has been very rewarding which makes me want to do more to help, that's why I have included breastfeeding support with massage for any Mums that are interested.
